- The webinar will review the main activities of the project and will bring together other European projects related to ocean protection
- EU Green Week is an event organized by the European Commission to raise awareness, promote and discuss European environmental policy
Finnova Foundation will organize on Thursday, June 6th, from 10:00h to 12:00h (CEST) the webinar, “ONE-BLUE: Synergies for the Protection of Oceans and Marine Environment”, which will serve as a presentation of the European project ONE-BLUE, funded by the Horizon Europe program. The project consortium, of which Finnova is a partner, investigates the effects of emerging pollutants on marine biodiversity and biota. The webinar will serve as a meeting point for stakeholders from the sector, such as the project partners, environmental agencies, researchers, scientists, and other European projects, among others.
The webinar will be divided into four blocks that will serve to learn about the main lines of action of the project and other similar initiatives that also receive European funding. The first two blocks will focus on the ONE-BLUE project and its research in the Mediterranean Sea, the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. During the three and a half years of the project, more than 800 samples are planned to be collected across 179 sampling stations. In this case, after a welcome offered by the Institute of Environmental Assesment and Water Research (IDAEA) representatives from the Alfred Wegener Institute, the Institut de Ciències del Mar and the Dublin City University, will give more details about the project, developing which will be the main activities of each one of them.
The second part of the webinar will serve as a meeting point with other projects and organizations working to protect the oceans. In this way, ONE-BLUE will be able to interact directly with projects related to its field of work and with which it can establish valuable synergies that will be key to its dissemination and exploitation. In total, there will be 6 European projects sharing experiences and generating debate on initiatives focused on the protection of oceans and waters: BLUE4ALL, PROTECT BALTIC, REMEDIES, NETTAG+, DaWetRest and RES4CITY.
European Green Week 2024: towards a water resilient Europe
The ONE-BLUE webinar is part of the European Green Week 2024, organized by the European Commission with the aim of raising awareness, promoting and debating European environmental policy. This year, the theme of this commemorative week is “Towards a Water Resilient Europe”, whereby activities focused on the care, management and protection of water will gain importance, with a view to fostering a European debate on water. Water mismanagement, pollution and the degradation of ecosystems make it necessary to propose solutions that address these problems in order to protect a vital resource such as water.
