22.05.24. Brussels- The AL-INVEST Verde project focused on the Chilean fruit sector is a joint initiative between the Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile (FEDEFRUTA) and the Finnova Foundation. This project has been launched with the aim of promoting a sustainable and circular business culture in the regional fruit industry. With funding of €365,127.07, this European Green AL-INVEST project has an expected duration of 20 months.
Under the title “Promoting a business culture with Triple Impact (ESG) models, low carbon emissions, circular and efficient use of resources within Chile’s fruit sector”, the program aligns with the European Union’s import standards and seeks to establish a sustainable governance model for the circular value chain.
The main objective of this AL-INVEST Verde project is to activate and implement a circular and sustainable business culture in at least 150 MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) in the Chilean fruit sector. This project ensures that Chilean companies meet the necessary requirements to access international markets. In addition, its specific objectives are to improve capacities in business sustainability, implement sustainable practices and obtain relevant certifications, and promote international cooperation in the Chilean fruit sector.
In terms of certification and international cooperation, the adoption of sustainable certifications, such as B Corp certification, will be facilitated, and cooperation between the Chilean fruit sector and European leaders will be promoted. This will open up export opportunities and strengthen trade relations.
The project includes a number of key activities, such as the mapping of value chain actors, the implementation of circularity governance pilot groups, sustainability and B certification training programs, and international cooperation meetings.
The expected results include establishing the operation of a governance model that guarantees the sustainability of the circular value chain in the Chilean fruit sector. In addition, the aim is to create future-proof companies. MSMEs will improve their capabilities in sustainability and circularity, enabling them to comply with EU import standards and access new markets. And at least 5 MSMEs will obtain sustainable certifications, and international cooperation between actors in the European and Chilean commercial ecosystem will be encouraged.
