Monday, 25 May 2026, Almería. The European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN organised a technical workshop at the facilities of the Tecnova Technology Centre in Almería, bringing together representatives from agricultural companies, industry associations, public administrations and plant protection experts. The event was held within the framework of the second meeting of Tecnova’s local Living Lab monitoring committee and provided an opportunity to present the project’s progress, demonstrate the operation of the natural fumigants developed by the consortium under real greenhouse conditions and gather stakeholders’ feedback regarding their potential contribution to sustainable agriculture. The session featured the participation of Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FUMIHOGAR and coordinator of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, together with representatives of Tecnova, project partner, and the Finnova Foundation, responsible for communication and dissemination activities.

A meeting point for innovation and agricultural stakeholders

The meeting formed part of the regular activities carried out by Tecnova’s Living Lab within LIFE NextFUMIGREEN. These local monitoring committees are a key requirement of the project methodology and bring together relevant regional stakeholders to assess ongoing trials, provide technical recommendations and facilitate the transfer of project results to the agricultural sector.

Participants included Magda Galeano, Vice-President of the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA); Antonio Alba, Technical Director at FICO; Ana Belén Arévalo, Head of Development at Agrobío; Mariana Lorbach, representative of the Andalusian Agency for Agricultural and Fisheries Management (AGAPA); José Antonio López, Technical Director at Biosabor; and Mónica Rodríguez, representative of Megasa, among other professionals linked to agricultural innovation and crop protection.

Field demonstrations and project presentations

The programme began with a technical visit to demonstration trials carried out under the European project BIOSOLUDOE, coordinated by the French organisation ASOI, in which Tecnova leads one of the project work packages. Participants then travelled to a second greenhouse where they attended a practical demonstration of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN’s fumigation technology and observed its operation under real cultivation conditions.

Back at Tecnova’s headquarters, attendees received an overview of BIOSOLUDOE’s objectives, consortium members, achievements and upcoming activities.

Gathering sector feedback for future development

The event concluded with the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN workshop, during which Carlos Ramos presented the project’s objectives and explained the work undertaken to develop plant-based natural fumigants designed to control pests and diseases affecting greenhouse horticultural crops.

Alongside the technical presentation, participants completed a survey aimed at collecting opinions, expectations and recommendations regarding the effectiveness, feasibility and market acceptance of these innovative biofumigation solutions. The feedback gathered will contribute to shaping the next validation and demonstration stages of the project.

LIFE NextFUMIGREEN has a total budget of €2,758,921.01 and is co-financed at 60% by the European Union’s LIFE Programme. The project is led by FUMIHOGAR  and brings together Centro Tecnológico Tecnova, Finnova Foundation, B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó and BrioAgro Tech, working collaboratively to develop innovative biofumigation solutions that enhance sustainability, competitiveness and environmental safety within European agriculture.
