The foundation strengthens its commitment to innovation, European cooperation and coastal adaptation during the events held on 24 and 25 November
Brussels / Gran Canaria, 11 December 2025. The Finnova Foundation took part on 24 and 25 November in two essential events of the European project LIFE COSTAdapta, an initiative aimed at strengthening the resilience of the coast of Gran Canaria against sea level rise through innovative nature-based solutions.
Finnova was represented by Yolanda Durán, external expert and communication officer of the project, and Adrián Noheda, project manager and expert in European funding. Both participated in the consortium’s technical sessions and the institutional activities held on the island.
Consortium technical meeting – 24 November
On Monday, the second consortium meeting of LIFE COSTAdapta took place, during which the project partners presented the progress of each work package, reviewed technical developments and defined the next implementation steps.
Finnova’s contribution focused on the project’s strategic communication, dissemination of results, replication and European funding opportunities to strengthen the long-term impact of the initiative.

1st Coastal Adaptation to Climate Change Day in Island Regions – 25 November
On Tuesday 25 November, the 1st Coastal Adaptation to Climate Change Day in Island Regions was held, an event co-organised by Finnova and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria within the framework of the EU Region Week. The event brought together public administrations, universities, European projects and organisations specialising in coastal management.

The session was opened by representatives of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, followed by an intervention by Adrián Noheda, who provided an overview of the role of European programmes and territorial cooperation in climate adaptation.
In addition, Finnova moderated the panel on European best practices, a space for exchange among initiatives such as NATALIE, Blue Green Governance, IMPLACOST, MasDunas and Las Galletas, among others.

The event addressed the challenges faced by island regions—from sea level rise to sediment loss and the impact of storms—as well as the need to promote innovative solutions that respect traditional coastal uses.
Finnova’s commitment to climate adaptation
Finnova’s participation in these events reinforces the foundation’s commitment to sustainable innovation, knowledge transfer and interregional cooperation to accelerate the response to climate change. Through its role in communication, replication and the identification of funding opportunities, Finnova contributes to expanding the reach and visibility of the LIFE COSTAdapta project.
LIFE COSTAdapta has a total budget of €3,337,563, of which €2,002,538 is co-funded by the European Union through the LIFE Programme. The consortium is formed by the Island Energy Council of Gran Canaria, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the University of Cantabria, INGECID, Raley Estudios Costeros, ECOncrete AQUA, the Canary Foundation for Recycling and Sustainable Development, and the Finnova Foundation.
