- 5G-DIGITs, a project to combat the skills gap in the 5G era
- More than 30 experts participated in the congress held at the Universitat Politècnica de València
Valencia, November 13, 2025. The Finnova Foundation has presented the European project 5G-DiGITs, co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission, during the fifth edition of the Womanation Congress, held at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). The meeting brought together more than thirty women leaders in technology, sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship, digital law and mental health, and has established itself as a key forum to promote female participation in the digital transition.
The presentation of 5G-DiGITs was given by Lola Bordás, Chief Marketing Officer of Finnova, in the session dedicated to European initiatives with social and technological impact. During his speech, Bordás highlighted the relevance of the project at a time marked by digital transformation and the green transition, pointing out the importance of promoting ethical, accessible artificial intelligence aimed at citizen well-being. He also highlighted the role of European programmes as a driver of opportunities for innovative female talent and stressed that advanced digital training is essential to access emerging professions linked to 5G.
The congress was inaugurated by Paula Llobet, Councillor for Tourism, Innovation and Investment Attraction of the Valencia City Council, and by Pilar Bernabé, Government Delegate in the Valencian Community. Both have agreed on the need to incorporate the female perspective in the processes of digitalisation and ecological transition. The event has had the institutional support of the First Vice-Presidency and Ministry of Social Services, Equality and Housing; the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism; the ETSID-UPV; Caixa Popular; and the newspaper Levante-EMV.
The participation of 5G-DiGITs in Womanation reinforces its commitment to the development of digital, green and entrepreneurial skills, as well as promoting a safe, accessible and inclusive digital transformation model. The intervention can be viewed from 4 a.m. in the official video of the congress.
A European alliance to lead the future of 5G
The deployment of 5G has established itself as an essential element for the development of the Internet of Things, smart cities, advanced industry and connectivity systems of the future. However, technological acceleration has highlighted an urgent need: the lack of qualified personnel to cover the new professional profiles.
With a budget of €1,745,421, 5G-DiGITs brings together 12 partners from eight European countries with the aim of preparing the next generation of specialists in 5G technologies, advanced digitalisation, sustainability and innovation. The consortium is led by Envolve Entrepreneurship (Greece) and composed of INFOLYSIS, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, CNC Solutions, Accelr8, F6S IE, Fundación Finnova, Inercia Digital, Universitat Politècnica de València, Karlstads Universitet, Technische Universität Chemnitz and Techin.
The project is articulated in four strategic priorities:
- Professional qualification, through the development of digital, green and entrepreneurial skills.
- Sectoral collaboration, promoting synergies between universities, vocational training centres and companies.
- Sustainability and accessibility, ensuring the equitable dissemination of 5G opportunities.
- Entrepreneurial culture, promoting innovative solutions to real market challenges.
Finnova plays a key role in the communication and dissemination plan, bringing 5G technologies closer to different sectors and favouring the adoption of the project’s results by public administrations, companies and educational centres.
