30.10.24. Brussels — On 26 October 2024, the largest fruit industry event in Latin America, Fruittrade, held in Santiago, Chile, was the setting for the launch of the ambitious AL-INVEST Green Sustainable Fruit project. This initiative was presented by Michel Lapierre Robles, LATAM-EU Director of the Finnova Foundation and Mario Marín, Project and Studies Manager of FEDEFRUTA, to an audience of industry experts and the public committed to agricultural sustainability. The AL-INVEST Sustainable Fruit Green project is designed to accelerate the transition of more than 150 Chilean fruit MSMEs towards circular and sustainable business models, with practices that minimize carbon emissions and optimize the use of resources in their production processes.

AL-INVEST Green Sustainable Fruit has a budget of €365,127.07 (of which €292,101.65 have been requested from SEQUA) and a duration of 20 months. The project seeks to consolidate a circular economy in the Chilean fruit sector, especially in the regions of O’Higgins, Maule and Ñuble, while responding to the sustainability and import requirements of the European Union.

During the launch event, Michel Lapierre highlighted the impact of the project: “AL-INVEST Green Sustainable Fruit symbolizes a unique opportunity for MSMEs in the Chilean fruit sector to position themselves in international markets, taking advantage of sustainable practices that not only benefit the environment, but also increase the competitiveness of these companies in a global market.” Within the framework of Fruittrade, this launch reinforces the event’s commitment to supporting initiatives that align Latin America with international environmental and sustainability standards.
