  • This day aims to raise awareness of the importance of this vital resource.

22/03/2025 Brussels. This Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, the Finnova Foundation will once again celebrate World Water Day, a day that urges us to reflect on the importance of this essential element for our humanity and ecosystems. This year, the foundation continues to support various projects dedicated to promoting a responsible use and preservation of water. The key projects to highlight are ONE-BLUE, RES4CITY, LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0 and LIFE COSTAdapta.

ONE-BLUE is a project that launched in 2024 and that focuses on protecting aquatic ecosystems from the impacts of emerging pollutants and climate change. The project has a budget of €6.2 million, funded by the European Union’s HORIZON programme. The team consists of over 100 researchers from 20 research groups across 18 institutions in 11 EU countries.

At the same time, RES4CITY, also funded by the HORIZON programme, has a budget of €2.5 million and focuses on the sustainable development of urban environments, The initiative promotes the use of educational tools to train workers in key areas related to the green transition. As part of this effort, the project has launched RES4CITY BoostMySkills platform, which provides educational content to train professionals in different aspects of city decarbonisation. Additionally, the project has developed several complementary documents such as a policy briefs and supporting materials with recommendations on sustainability, innovation and support for sustainable ideas.

Aside from the HORIZON programme, Finnova also contributes to several projects under the LIFE Programme, which funds environmental initiatives to battle issues such as climate change. LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0, which has a budget of €971.000, aims to develop an on-demand generation of biogas to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Finally, LIFE COSTAdapta, a project based on the coast of Gran Canaria, seeks to implement an innovative tidal pool-reef system designed to provide a long-term global solution to the challenges faced by coastal areas. The project has a budget of €3.4 million, 60% of which is funded by the European Union through the LIFE Programme.

Sustainability, water and waste management, renewable energy, and the battle against climate change are some of Finnova’s priorities. This is reflected in Next Water Generation, the foundation’s initiative aimed at disseminating information on water management and protection, as well as in its active participation in multiple European projects focused on these topics.
