Finnova lands in Turkey to present its initiatives related to water management and water protection

13/05/2023, Brussels. Finnova Foundation lands this week in Istanbul (Turkey) to attend a series of events where it will present its initiatives on European funding for sustainable projects and establish contacts with local companies. The attendance to this kind of events confirms Finnova as a reference entity in the field of sustainability, presenting its initiatives as role models. 

On Wednesday, May 15th, Finnova will offer a presentation on green financing mechanisms. This space is framed within the Mediterranean Green Week, organized by the Union for the Mediterranean and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and will serve to discuss collaborative financing for sustainability and resilience in the Mediterranean, focusing on the impact at the local level and leveraging key initiatives for regional collaboration. Finnova will participate in this space as an entity committed to financing sustainable projects, providing key financial and technical support to initiatives in the Mediterranean region, fostering collaboration and resource mobilization. 

The foundation will present the projects LIFE COSTAdapta, LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0, RES4CITY and ONE-BLUE as examples of consortia that are working on innovative proposals for better protection and management of water. In addition, the challenges that the foundation poses in the field of water protection will be presented, accelerating ideas to bring innovative ideas to reality. 

The second day of this series of meetings will be held on Thursday, May 16, where Finnova will participate as a guest company in the “New Mediterranean Partnership Istambul/Alicante”, a Spanish-Turkish business meeting organized by Casa Mediterráneo and the Spanish Embassy in Turkey. The meeting will allow the invited Spanish companies to learn first-hand about the investment and business cooperation opportunities that are currently open in Turkey. The Ottoman country is a territory that the foundation is familiar with, being partners in the Smart and Digital Agriculture project, a project led by the Provincial Directorate of National Education of Eskişehir (Turkey) and which has 4 other Turkish partners within the consortium. 

This series of meetings in Istanbul will be the first stop of a tour that will allow the foundation to attend first-class events to publicize its activities. Next week, Finnova will travel to Bali (Indonesia) to attend the 10th World Water Forum

With a duration of 7 years and a total budget of 3,409,864 EUR (2,045,818 EUR subsidized by the EU through the LIFE Program), COSTAdapta is a project coordinated by the Gran Canaria Island Energy Council (CIEGC) of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with the support of 7 partners: University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC); University of Cantabria (UC); INGECID, Research and Project Development; Raley Estudios Costeros S. C.P.; ECOncrete AQUA; Fundación Canaria para el Reciclaje y Desarrollo Sostenible (FCR) and Fundación Finnova.

About LIFE ECODIGESTION 2.0

It is a demonstrative pilot project, financed by the LIFE program, that generates biogas in water treatment plant digesters by mixing putrescible organic waste (slurry, poultry, organic fractions, MSW, horeca, etc.), in a way that allows transforming sludge from wastewater treatment plants into green energy through technology. The initiative led by Global Omnium, (Spain), in collaboration with the Finnova Foundation (Belgium) and Águas do Centro Litoral (Portugal) aims to become the most versatile digestion control tool on the market by achieving environmental and economic benefits by producing biogas through optimal waste exploitation. 

About RES4CITY

RES4CITY is an innovative European educational project 100% funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe Program. Its main objective is to bridge the skills gap that is slowing down our transition to sustainable energy. It will be designed by a multidisciplinary group of partners from academia, industry and European NGOs with expertise in energy management, renewable energy systems, renewable fuel technologies and the development and implementation of sustainability strategy design. RES4CITY aims to ensure that education systems are at the heart of the ecological transition. The team will co-design a set of micro-masters programs aimed at Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) graduates and non-STEM graduates, as well as professionals seeking retraining in a wide variety of sectors and career paths. These micro-masters will respond to the needs and priorities of businesses, public institutions and citizens.

About ONE-BLUE  

ONE-BLUE, a research initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program. With a budget of more than €6,200,000, ONE-BLUE focuses on research into the impact of emerging pollutants and the effects of climate change on marine biodiversity, thus contributing to the understanding and preservation of our aquatic ecosystems.

About Smart and Digital Agriculture The European Smart and Digital Agriculture project actively encourages driving digitalization in the agricultural sector to address current and future challenges. Through innovative solutions, SDA seeks to improve efficiency, sustainability and food production. With the leadership of Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education (Turkey) and with the collaboration of Prof dr asen zlatarov university (Bulgaria) , Institute of agricultural economics (Bulgaria) , Finnovaregio (Belgium) , Ayuntamiento de Benaguasil (Spain) , Rural coalition kumanovo (Republic of North Macedonia), Anadolu University (Turkey), Saricakaya municipality (Turkey), Saricakaya District Directorate of Agriculture (Turkey), Association of cosmetic manufacturers and researchers (Turkey), the project has a total budget of 198,830, funded by the Erasmus+ program, and has a duration of 2 years.
