Less than 2 weeks to go to the Brussels Textiles Recycling Expo

  • On 4 and 5 June 2025, Finnova will be presenting the Erasmus+ Textil4all project at its stand 2613.
  • Textile sector is the second most polluting industry in the world
  • The free event will bring together the entire textile supply chain, consisting of leading recyclers, waste managers, textile manufacturers, clothing suppliers, retailers and other stakeholders, to address the current and future challenges of textile waste.

The EU generates 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste per year. Clothing and footwear alone account for 5.2 million tonnes of waste, equivalent to 12 kg of waste per person each year. On 4-5 June, the EU capital Brussels will host Textiles Recycling Expo, the first exhibition of its kind to focus specifically on tackling the pressing problem of textile waste, including the recycling of textiles, clothing, footwear, fibres and nonwovens.

The textile sector is the second most polluting industry in the world and the EU is committed to reducing the environmental and climate change impacts of textiles. To do so, it is crucial to shift towards circular business models to save on raw materials, energy, water and land use, emissions and waste. Implementing and scaling up circular business models requires technical, social and business model innovation, as well as policy, consumer and educational enablers.

Currently, only 22% of post-consumer textile waste is collected separately for reuse or recycling, while the rest is usually incinerated or landfilled. In this scenario, and given the urgent need to move towards a more sustainable and circular textile sector, entrepreneurship, innovation and technology play a leading role.

TEXTIL4LL stand

The Textile Recycling Expo 2025 will become a must-attend event for those who want to urgently address the challenge of textile waste. And Finnova, committed to this issue, will have a stand where it will offer information and present the European project TEXTIL4ALL Opportunities in the textile sector for people and the planet, funded by the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE) through the ERASMUS+ programme. With a budget of 60,000 euros and a duration of 19 months, the initiative aims to offer training and job opportunities to people with more difficulties in accessing a job, with a special focus on women in San Cristobal de los Angeles in Madrid (Spain) and Thessaloniki (Greece). Led by the non-profit association Education, Culture and Solidarity (ECYS), and formed by a consortium between the Greek Envolve and the Finnova Foundation Belgium, TEXTIL4ALL targets the textile sector, which faces much criticism for its environmental impact and lack of social responsibility. T The initiative has two main objectives: to give access to training and employment to social sectors seeking job opportunities, recognising their integral value in society; and to promote a more sustainable textile industry committed to current environmental challenges, tackling issues such as ‘fast fashion’ and its negative consequences.

The latest technologies at the textile exhibition

This innovative and free event will bring together the entire textile supply chain, including leading recyclers, waste managers, textile manufacturers, clothing suppliers, retailers and other stakeholders, to address current and future textile waste challenges and explore cutting-edge technologies and recycling strategies designed to meet increasing European regulatory pressure and consumer demand for sustainability.

The exhibition will feature the latest sorting, shredding and recycling technologies and the presence of pioneering textile recyclers, fibre and fabric manufacturers using recovered materials.

The high-level conference, to be held in conjunction with the exhibition, will provide a forum for industry leaders, innovators and stakeholders to shape a sustainable future for the textile industry and to discuss and share knowledge.
