Finnova hosts a European meeting on green skills in education under the EduDemoS project

The event, attended by the European Commission, regional authorities, and educational centres, addressed the strategic role of vocational education and training (VET) in the green and digital transitions

Brussels, 12th June 2025. The Finnova Foundation held on Tuesday, 10 June, the international event of the Erasmus+ EduDemoS project, focusing on vocational education and training (VET) as a key tool to advance the objectives of the European Green Deal. The meeting brought together representatives from the European Commission, regional authorities, sustainability experts, VET centres, and young students from various European countries.

The event was moderated by Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, who also delivered a presentation during the final session on the Erasmus+ 2025 programme for Vocational Education and Training (VET). Revuelta outlined funding opportunities for public and private entities, highlighting the need to link training with territorial development strategies, foster youth entrepreneurship, and strengthen education-business partnerships. He also stressed the importance of promoting green and digital skills to ensure sustainable jobs in the context of the twin transitions.

The event featured high-level institutional interventions. Frank Siebern-Thomas, Head of Unit for Fair, Green and Digital Transitions (DG EMPL, European Commission), emphasised the urgency of equipping new generations with skills that respond to ecological and social challenges. From the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER), Paula Rey García focused on the growth of the clean energy sector and the need to increase its workforce by 50% by 2030.

At the regional level, Raúl García Brink, councillor at the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, shared projects such as Ciberlandia and EDUROF, integrating sustainability, digitalisation, and education from early stages. During the central session, the progress of the EduDemoS project was presented by Nayra Moreno from the Sergio Alonso Foundation, and other consortium partners such as Rainer Stetter (ITQ GmbH, Germany), Pascal Schoenholzer and Juerg Pfeiffer (GBS St. Gallen, Switzerland), along with testimonials from students Alaaddin Karakoyun and Tenzin Tuenschitsang, participants in the International Student Academy organised by Finnova.

Finnova was also represented by Yolanda Durán, who presented the 5G-DiGITs project focused on closing the digital gap amid 5G rollout, and Idoia Migura, Head of Communication, who introduced the RESSKILL and RES4CITY projects, both linked to sustainability and urban resilience training. Migura also took the opportunity to share information about the ongoing LIFE programme calls, which offer €299 million in funding until 23 September 2025 in areas such as nature, circular economy, climate change, the New European Bauhaus, and environmental governance.

Finally, Alejandro García, Director of IES El Rincón (Spain), shared best practices in applying sustainability to VET through real-life projects in energy efficiency, IoT, and Agriculture 4.0.

The event, part of the Erasmus+ EduDemoS project (official website), showcased Finnova’s commitment to training for green jobs, digitalisation, and educational innovation in Europe.
