The foundation will present the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project and showcase EU funding opportunities for sustainable and innovative agri-food practices
Brussels, 20 June 2025. The Finnova Foundation is organising the online event “Circular solutions for sustainable agriculture” on Monday, 23 June 2025, from 10:00 to 12:00 CEST, as part of the EU Green Week 2025, the European Commission’s flagship week on environmental policy. The event has been officially recognised as a Partner Event and will spotlight the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project, which focuses on reducing the use of chemical fumigants in greenhouses through plant-based, biosecure alternatives.
Held online with simultaneous interpretation into English, French, Italian and Greek, the event is open to stakeholders from the agri-food sector, public authorities, research institutions, entrepreneurs and citizens committed to sustainable farming and the green transition.
The opening will be moderated by Yolanda Durán, Head of EU Communications at Finnova, and will feature institutional remarks from the Regional Ministry of Agriculture of Andalusia, outlining regional strategies for circular agriculture.
The second block will focus on the technological progress of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, including the development of safe fumigants, sensor-based precision farming, and circular best practices. Speakers will represent project partners FumiHogar, BrioAgro, Tecnova, B&B Asesores, and Comercial Química Massó.
Finnova to present cross-programme EU synergies for sustainable farming
The third and final session, led by Finnova Foundation, will explore how to combine EU funding instruments to scale agricultural innovation.
Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, will introduce key EU initiatives and present successful projects such as LIFE COSTAdapta (nature-based coastal adaptation), LIFE ECODIGESTION 2.0 (organic waste valorisation in wastewater treatment plants), and LIFE ReSkill (green skills for workforce transition). He will also highlight new LIFE 2025 funding opportunities, including an upcoming call in September 2025, with a budget of €611 million, covering post-harvest treatment and pesticide reduction technologies.
Finnova will also present its role in the AL-INVEST Verde programme through projects like Sustainable Coffee and Sustainable Fruit, as well as a new funding opportunity focused on circular agri-food practices for export, expected in October 2025.
José Manuel Requena, EU project manager, will share experiences from Interreg projects in the agri-food sector, while Nuria Oller, IVY volunteer, will present HIBA+, a successful cross-border digitalisation and entrepreneurship project supported by Interreg POCTEP.
The session will also cover upcoming opportunities under Erasmus+, with a new call for innovative agricultural training consortia expected in July 2025.
A model for regenerative and circular agriculture
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is a 4.5-year project coordinated by FumiHogar, with the participation of BrioAgro Tech, Comercial Química Massó, B&B Asesores, and Finnova Foundation. The project is 60% co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union through CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, with a total budget of €2,758,921.01.
Its goal is to test and validate plant-based fumigants that are safer for workers and the environment, reduce emissions and waste, and support biodiversity through the adoption of circular agricultural practices.
