LIFE NextFUMIGREEN stands out at DIGIVIT for its sustainable innovation and its impact on post-harvest protection in the wine sector

  • Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, highlights the potential of dry bionebulization for the wine sector in Latin America
  • The innovation enables eco-friendly protection, without adding moisture and without altering the wine’s aroma or taste
  • The European project makes the leap “from the greenhouse to the winery,” reducing treatment times and costs to less than one third

The European project LIFE NextFUMIGREEN has participated with great success in the DIGIVIT fair, held on Wednesday, April 29th , and Thursday, April 30th  in Lerma. In this context, Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Finnova Foundation, highlights the adaptation of this technology to the wine sector and its impact on winery sustainability. The event brings together actors from the innovation ecosystem to promote technological solutions, fostering innovation transfer, international cooperation, and cost reduction in the sector.

LIFE NextFUMIGREEN: from the greenhouse to the winery

The participation of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN in DIGIVIT highlights its role as an innovation driver. The project, led by FumiHogar, presented its technological adaptation oriented toward the post-harvest treatment of wine grapes. Its solutions based on dry bionebulization using plant extracts allow the reduction of conventional chemical use. As it is a dry smoke format, it prevents the proliferation of secondary fungi caused by excess humidity and ensures that the organoleptic qualities of the wine (aroma and taste) are not altered.

The project provides an approach aligned with the European Green Deal. It promotes more sustainable, “zero waste” agriculture, which comprehensively protects both winery staff and the final consumer. In addition, as it does not require heavy machinery and is an autonomous system, it reduces treatment time to less than one third.

DIGIVIT Lerma: a key space for cooperation with Latin America

DIGIVIT brings together experts, companies, and institutions from the technological and agricultural sectors. The event facilitates the exchange of knowledge and best practices.

During the fair, Juanma Revuelta held an exchange with the commercial attaché of the Embassy of Chile and Isidro Laso, an official of the European Commission. In this dialogue, the use of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN fumigant in Latin America was highlighted. Focus was placed on its application in post-harvest and storage. A solution that enables more organic production, with fewer chemicals, greater operational efficiency, and lower costs, improving the sector’s competitiveness in international markets with strict regulations.

Technological transfer and circular bioeconomy

LIFE NextFUMIGREEN promotes technology transfer between Europe and Latin America. The project fosters sustainable solutions adapted to different territories that support the transition toward circular bioeconomy models and strengthen food security.

The project, led by FumiHogar and developed in collaboration with Fundación Tecnova, Fundación Finnova, B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó, and BrioAgro Tech, represents an example of European cooperation aimed at improving food safety, protecting human health, and preserving the environment, with a total budget of €2,758,921.01, co-funded at 60% by the LIFE Programme.
