The European project has been present at the International Forum and Expo on Digitalisation in Viticulture as an example of sustainability and innovation applied to the rural environment
Lerma, Burgos. Wednesday, 6 May 2026. The international forum DIGIVIT was held on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 April 2026 in Lerma (Burgos). The event brought together experts, companies, wineries and institutions to address the challenges of digitalisation and agri-food sustainability. Likewise, the focus was placed on technological innovation and resource efficiency.
The meeting hosted the participation of ECOFFEE, an initiative co-funded by the European Union. The project is presented as an innovative approach in the field of waste valorisation. The project is presented as an innovative proposal in the field of waste recovery. The model demonstrates how coffee grounds are transformed into sustainable resources of high added value, reinforcing the ecological transition in the rural environment.
The Finnova Foundation, responsible for communication and dissemination, had its own stand. This space gave visibility to ECOFFEE and facilitated contact with sector professionals. Furthermore, it reinforced the alignment with the event’s values, such as innovation, sustainability and rural development. The space served as a meeting point to present its scope and its contribution to the European circular economy.
Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, participated in the sessions on European funding. During his intervention, he presented ECOFFEE as an example of cascade funding and highlighted its innovative character within the European instruments supporting the green and digital transition. Revuelta pointed out that “there is potential to use coffee waste as a nutritional supplement for livestock”. This possibility expands its applications and reinforces its circular economy approach, beyond its use as natural biocides.
DIGIVIT also brought together prominent profiles from the agri-food sector and European funding. Participants included Isidro Laso, Senior Official at the European Innovation Council; Carlos Franco Alonso, technical advisor at CDTI; and Mercedes Berciano, Head of the Modernisation of Farms and Promotion of Young People and Women in Agricultural Activity at the Government of Castilla y León.
The programme included a round table on digital traceability and cybersecurity, where the debate raised a key question: “Real value or unnecessary extra cost?”. This space reinforced the commitment of the European Union and the Finnova Foundation to the promotion of innovative solutions that drive the sustainability and digitalisation of the agri-food sector.
ECOFFEE has demonstrated the potential of European cooperation to transform waste into economic and environmental opportunities. The project contributes to a more efficient production model aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal.
