The Slovakian company Sensoneo has won the Proptech StartUp Europe Awards Final 2018, celebrated at MIPIM Europe in Paris on 2nd July

– The waste management startup has claimed first prize in the final of the contest, while Finnish company Mapple and German Sensorberg have made it to the second and third place respectively.

Paris, 03.07.2019. The Proptech StartUp Europe Awards 2018 has finally got its winner. Waste management startup Sensoneo has claimed the first prize in the pitching sessions of the finals of the contest, hosted at MIPIM PropTech EU 2019 in Paris. The Slovakia-based tech company has been one of the ten finalists from a very strong field of innovative companies. The Finnish company Mapple has made it to the second place, using modelling and AI technology to help cities handle rapidly increasing urbanisation by providing analytics. The 3rd place on the podium has been for Sensorberg, a German company who digitalizes buildings using an open and hardware agnostic sensor-based system. Ten finalists have taken part at the live pitching sessions in the Proptech StartUp Europe Awards 2018 finals.

Sensoneo is on a mission to help cities and companies manage their waste more effectively and efficiently while improving environments for people. The company has developed a cloud-based platform which allows customers to completely digitize the entire bin infrastructure, and to configure, monitor and manage daily waste operations online. Using their inhouse developed and produced smart sensors that are combined with sophisticated software, the solution provides real-time waste monitoring and suggests optimal collection routes and automated navigation via shortest and safest routes. The solution enables to collect waste on demand while utilizing the resources to maximum. Co-Founder of Sensoneo Andrea Basilova feels really “grateful” to the Proptech House, Finnova Foundation and the European Commission for “making this unique competition happen”. “It is a great opportunity to show up what the innovative companies from the EU have developed, to share experience and support each other”, she claimed.

Basilova also stated that “becoming a winner of Proptech Startup Europe Awards 2018 is another great success of Sensoneo. It clearly proves the potential that data-driven waste management can bring to the field of real-estate, urban planning and facility management”. Sheadded that this award is a “great satisfaction” for them and to the hard work they have done in terms of innovation, technology and also in the field of building partnerships, as this is really their “key” to make this amazing solution succeed worldwide.

The winner will receive an European Acceleration Ticket worth 10.000 euros from StartUp Europe Accelerator in order to scale up its business idea, which can be transformed thanks to European funds and try to make it, for instance, a LIFE Environment project. A LIFE Environment project offers up to 1 million € to carry out a pilot demonstration project. The ticket will also offer training on the legal framework in the EU, as well as information on different training programmes offered by the EU

The PropTech StartUp Europe Awards are a new category framed in the StartUp Europe Awards (22 categories), promoted by the European Commission and implemented by the Finnova Foundation, the EU PropTech House and the Worker. It is an award methodology for startups at European level, which fosters open innovation and collaboration between different actors of European ecosystems, through public-private partnerships to support new entrepreneurs. Stefan Scheuerle, CEO of the third classified Sensorberg, is “very pleased to be part of that competition”. “Not only gives it us visibility within our market, but we also appreciate the overall initiative as it gives start-ups a chance to really create change. 50 European Proptech companies participated in the semi-finals of the PropTech Startup Europe competition on May 6th in Brussels. They competed in front of the 35 members of a professional European jury. Ten finalists from a very strong field of innovative companies were chosen there: Be Park, Halio Glass (Belgium), Sensorberg, HomeBeat.Live (Germany), Sensoneo (Slovakia), Realiz3d and CAD42 (France), Mapple (Finland), Swedish Build Safe (Sweden) and Access Green (Ireland). The launch of the first PropTech Startup Europe Awards was a sign of recognition by the European Commission of the importance and enormous potential of PropTech’s innovative industry in the refurbishment of traditional real estate.

Mapple is a spin-off from the Digital Geography Lab at the University of Helsinki. Following a longterm collaboration with Finnish cities and urban planners, the lab developed data driven tools to understand how the city functions. Seeing the need for advanced smart mobility solutions, a group of researchers decided to use their expertise to build easy to use solutions that help cities with their everyday challenges.

3. Sensorberg

Sensorberg digitizes complex buildings and physical processes within the field of Smart Spaces. They fulfill individual and specific needs of their customers and that require its own individual solutions for doors, lockers, sensors and actuators.

Bunt Planet joins forces with Siemens to distribute its software that detects water leaks

  • The enterprise from the Basque Country is in Phase II of SME Instrument and has just presented a LIFE project with support of the Finnova Foundation

In a period marked by environmental awareness, SMEs like Bunt Planet are more necessary than ever. Since 2013 this company has created software capable of reducing water losses in drinking water distribution networks through Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. They have now signed a distribution contract with Siemens, whereby the German multinational will be responsible for marketing this software worldwide, thereby improving the sustainable water supply worldwide. It is essential for countries like Chile, Panama and Mexico.

Bunt Planet thus responds to one of the main objectives of the UN’s European environmental action and sustainable development for the 2018-2028 decade: resource efficiency, in this case, water efficiency. It is done by using the BuntBrain software, which has two modules: WaterMeters, to control water losses consumed but not billed for reading errors, and LeakFinder, that detects water leaks in pipes.

This innovative idea has led Bunt Planet to the 2nd stage of SME Instrument, in which innovation projects for SMEs with high potential are supported and product research, development and demonstration activities are financed. The company already received a Stamp of Excellence from the European Commission in 2015 for Phase I and another Stamp of Excellence in 2016 for Phase II, indicators of quality and the great potential of the project. The founder, Ainhoa Lete, emphasises the importance of European funds as the SME Instrument: “it has been a key aid for us. It has allowed us to demonstrate the advantages of applying artificial intelligence to reduce water losses in different regions of the world,” she said.

In addition, Bunt Planet has recently submitted a LIFE proposal with the support of the Finnova Foundation. The LIFE programme is the only financial instrument in the European Union devoted entirely to the environment. Its overall objective is to fulfil the environmental commitments adopted by the European Union in the Paris Agreement, as well as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, promoting innovative environmental and climate change policies and technologies. The current budget for 2014-2020 is 3.4 billion euros.

Juan Manuel Revuelta, Director of the Finnova Foundation, considers that the company has many possibilities to be scaled worldwide. “In addition to the SME Instrument and the LIFE Programme, they would be perfectly eligible for Fast Track to Innovation, the European Commission’s new pilot action under EIC Pilot Horizon 2020,” he said. The programme aims to reduce the time taken by an innovative idea to reach the market, stimulating the participation of applicants in EU funding programmes and increasing private sector investment in research and innovation. Non-repayable grants may vary from EUR 1-2 million up to EUR 3 million, if justified.

Finnova Foundation attends as a partner the public presentation of the Iberian Center for Research and Forest Firefighting (CILIFO)

The general director Juanma Revuelta and the manager of CILIFO in Finnova José Manuel Requena took part in the event, celebrated in the University of Huelva.

On 19 June, the University of Huelva hosted the presentation of the Iberian Centre for Research and Combating Forest Fires (Cilifo), in which 15 institutions from the regions of Andalusia, Algarve and Alentejo are taking part. The setting up of this Centre is part of a project approved by the Operational Programme for Cross-border Cooperation POCTEP and is co-financed with FEDER Funds. The centre will be located on the Carmen Campus of the University of Huelva. The project has a duration of three years and a financial endowment of 24.6 million euros to undertake all the actions of the project in the territory of intervention of the three participating regions. The Finnova Foundation participates as a partner in the project and the event was attended by the general director Juanma Revuelta and the head of CILIFO in Finnova José Manuel Requena.

The event was attended by the rector of the University of Huelva, María Antonia Peña, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andalucía, Carmen Crespo. The objectives pursued by this centre, coordinated by the Regional Government of Andalusia, are the following: to strengthen and combine cooperation, working procedures and training between forest fire prevention and extinction devices in the cooperation area of the Alentejo-Algarve-Andalucía Euroregion; to promote the creation of lasting and quality employment in the area; to reduce the economic cost of fires by creating a rural economy linked to the landscape and to improve the response capacity to forest fires of the administrations and authorities involved in the fight against them in the three participating regions.

The CILIFO project consists of a series of actions, grouped in the areas of infrastructure, awareness, training, development and innovation that will allow to implement and improve the strategy to fight forest fires in Spain and Portugal. In this way, a cross-border training plan in fire prevention and extinction will be designed and implemented, based on the acquisition of skills and permanent learning by the extinction operatives of Spain and Portugal, and an awareness and research plan will be launched with the participation of researchers from all regions.

CILIFO makes its presentation tomorrow in Huelva

CILIFO is focused on the prevention and extinction of wildfires and is part of POCTEP 2014-2020

Brussels, 18/06/2019-. The Presentation of the Project Iberian Center for Forest Fire Research and Control, known as CILIFO, will take place tomorrow, 19. June, at 12:30 a.m in the graduate school hall from the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the campus El Carmen, at the University of Huelva (Spain).

CILIFO is focused on the prevention and extinction of wildfires and is part of the Cooperation Programme Interreg VA Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) 2014-2020. This project will create a centre for entrepreneurs and enterprises from the Technological sector, related with the adaptation and mitigation from climate change, as well as those technologies for the prevention, extinction and sensitization in the field of forest fires.

This Center will announce as well the creation and launch of their vertical incubator/accelerator. It will generate a network of antenna in all Europe, which will support entrepreneurship in fire-fighting operations and regeneration of burned spaces. One of the initiatives from the accelerator is the call for LIFE pre-proposals 2019, the EU financial instrument. The accelerator will identify the most disruptive solutions to the fire-fighting challenges and their effects on climate change.

CILIFO has a budget of 25 million euros. Of which 1 million is managed by the Finnova Foundation for the accelerator.

Hosly, the proof that entrepreneurship has no age

The app has been created by Claudia, Eva, Lucía and Lluna, 11-year-old Spanish girls, in order to help hospitalised children to have a better stay through technology

Good ideas can come at any time, no matter your age. This is the case of Claudia, Eva, Lucía and Lluna, four 11-year-old Spanish girls that have created the perfect app for helping other kids. Hosly, designed to provide technological services that connect hospitalised children and their families, offers several tools: geolocation/GPS that connects at once kids with their relatives, three games designed by the girls and a motivation/calm mode, which provides the sick kids motivational quotes, pictures, videos and music.

Hosly has won the second Technovation award that was celebrated at the Polytechnic University of Valencia last may, and now they are in the international stage of this North American contest. In fact, they have already presented their candidature to compete at the Technovation Challenge 2019, an international contest for entrepreneurs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Finnova Foundation sees great potential in this app for its innovativeness and great social contribution. “We are sure that this girls will go far in the entrepreneur eco-system with great ideas like Hosly” said Juanma Revuelta.

The call for Civil Society Projects from the programme Europe for Citizens is open

The aim of this program is to foster European citizenship and improve conditions for civic and democratic participation at EU level, to encourage democratic participation of citizens at EU level and to support concrete participation in the EU policy-making process.

The projects must contribute to raise awareness of remembrance, the common history and values of the EU and the EU’s aim and to encourage the democratic and civic participation of citizens at EU level.

Civil Society Projects 2019

Projects in this area must:

  • Encourage direct participation by European citizens
  • Bring together new citizens of different environments to give them the opportunity of participating actively in EU policies
  • Organize reflection activities, debates and other activities related with multiannual priority topics.
  • Propose concrete and realistic solutions regarding EU policies
  • Promote commitment and social solidarity

Who can apply: Non-profit organisations, including civil society organisations, educational, cultural or research institutions.
A project must involve organisations from at least 3 eligible countries, of which at least one is an EU Member State.

This program has 3,7 million € of funding, and the maximum funding given to each project does not surpass 150.000€.

The 9th edition of the leading innovation event in Southern Europe will take place on 12 and 13 February 2020 in Málaga (Spain)

Transfiere, European Forum for Science, Technology and Innovation, calls for international bodies to take part in the ninth edition of the event on 12 and 13 February 2020. With a strong focus on Europe, the forum is a first-rate platform allowing participants access to the most advanced innovations in the following key economic sectors: aeronautics and aerospace, agri-food, energy, industry, infrastructure and transport, the environment, health, finance and services, and information and communication technologies (ICT).

Positioned as the most important Spanish event on innovation and the transfer of knowledge between research and business, it was presented to institutions and professionals today in the European Parliament (Brussels). Within the event’s framework, these parties have the opportunity to discover and acquire innovative products and ideas from high-tech fields such as industry 4.0, robotic and automation, blue and circular economy, artificial intelligence applied to 5G and IoT, biotechnology.

Each year, the forum brings the most up-to-date innovations in these sectors to the forefront thanks to a programme packed with conferences, round tables and presentations by international experts—around 300 speakers in 2019. Last year’s edition was attended by more than 1,800 public and private entities and more than 20,000 research groups were also present.

Also noteworthy was that the last event closed with the participation of 4,500 professionals from twenty countries and active delegations from Japan (guest country), Argentina, Portugal and the United Arab Emirates, hosting more than 5,500 business meetings that took place over the course of 14 hours.On the other hand, more than thirty prototypes were exhibited in a call for proposals in which the part played by investors gained prominence—with nearly 40 funds and accelerators involved—, as well as start-ups and open innovative settings, with 165 solutions presented in response to the technological challenges raised by multinationals.

Opportunities for internationalisation

Transfiere addresses internationalisation opportunities for Spanish R+D+i, among other topics, through hosting a “Guest country”, focusing on the main success factors and models of relevant innovative systems. In 2019 it was Japan, following in the footsteps of other countries such as Israel, South Korea, Portugal and Argentina.

The conference also includes specialised content on new economies to analyse initiatives launched at a global level. It also combines collaborative models with international organisations and bodies. During 2018, the forum exported its brand for the first time in its eight-year history with the holding of Transfiere Argentina, the Ibero-American Forum on Technology and Innovation.

Support for the dissemination and communication of knowledge

The Transfiere Forum also highlights the role of communicators and disseminators responsible for transferring scientific knowledge to the society at large, as part of the knowledge transfer process. Thus, annually it convenes the ‘Transfiere Forum’ Journalism Awards to Support Scientific, Technological and Innovative Dissemination, which recognises the work of journalists and publicists in raising awareness for the technological innovation developed in Spain and its emergence in international circles. With this objective in mind, the forum also organises, in conjunction with the Spanish Association of Scientific Communication (AECC in its Spanish acronym), the Transfiere Forum Scientific Communication Conference: ‘Disseminate science, technology and innovation’.

As a new feature, last year’s event included the ‘Talent Woman by Transfer & Alastria‘ business brunch to discuss women’s status in STEM disciplines —science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Transfiere will bring together other cross-cutting issues, such as the achievement of Sustainable Development Objectives (SDOs) in the framework of the 2010 Agenda.

Transfiere 2019 is organised by FYCMA (Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga). Its promoters include the Malaga City Council, the Ministry of Knowledge, Research and the Universities of the Andalusian Regional Government and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and the Universities of the Spanish Government.

Transfiere calls on European entities to discover cutting-edge Spanish innovations

The main R+D+i event presented in Brussels its solidification in Spain as a tool for sharing scientific knowledge and promoting innovation

Transfiere, European Forum for Science, Technology and Innovation, calls for international bodies to take part in the ninth edition of the event on 12 and 13 February 2020. With a strong focus on Europe, the forum is a first-rate platform allowing participants access to the most advanced innovations in the following key economic sectors: aeronautics and aerospace, agri-food, energy, industry, infrastructure and transport, the environment, health, finance and services, and information and communication technologies (ICT).

Positioned as the most important Spanish event on innovation and the transfer of knowledge between research and business, it was presented to institutions and professionals today in the European Parliament (Brussels). Within the event’s framework, these parties have the opportunity to discover and acquire innovative products and ideas from high-tech fields such as industry 4.0, robotic and automation, blue and circular economy, artificial intelligence applied to 5G and IoT, biotechnology.

During the presentation, Juan Manuel Revuelta, CEO of Finnova Foundation, participated at the meeting talking about the European programs and fundings that allow a further and deeper development of innovation.
